EXCURSIONS
For our first trip, we will travel to Niagara Falls to explore the history of hydroelectric power, on both the American and Canadian sides of the river, through guided tours and immersive experiences. Later in the year, our adventures will take us to an abandoned coal mine and ghost town in central PA; to a working nuclear power facility in southern CT; to a solar power infrastructure in NYC; and finally, to the largest offshore wind turbine project in the US, off the coast of Block Island, RI. These experiences will address a broad range of queries, and introduce students to the technology, politics, past, present, and future of renewable energy in the United States.
To learn more about the first immersive experience at Niagara Falls on October 22-24, click on the hydroelectric icon below. Students interested in participating must submit their applications by Thursday, September 30. An optional info session about the trip will be held in Zoom on the evening of Thursday, September 23, from 8-8:30 PM, immediately after Back to School night. Interested students and parents are invited to meet with trip leaders Leitzel Schoen, Matt Dilley, and Peter Kalajian, who will provide a brief overview of the trip and answer any questions. Students participating in this first immersive experience will be given priority on all subsequent renewable energy excursions this year.
